Medical Evangelism & Discipleship

After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. (John 6:1-2)

The healing brought the people to hear Jesus and the gospel to brought the people to God. There are an estimated 33,000 villages in the Amazon basin with no gospel witness. Amazon For Christ uses the tool of medicine to bring the people to us to be opened to hear the gospel message. Our ultimate goal is to see a church plant in these villages.

The Amazon is a vast region of dense jungle, permeated by multiple tributaries branching from the Amazon river.  A portion of this land is protected by governments and outsiders are legally forbidden to enter into the protected areas.  However, there are numerous towns and fishing villages along the various channels of water which are not within the restricted areas.  We work within the legal boundaries.

The medical portion of our ministry is conducted by licensed health care practitioners such as dentists, doctors, nurses, optometrists, EMT personnel, etc.  Sharing the Gospel is conducted in a variety of ways by those who can speak the language effectively.  Literature, interpreters, public witnessing, and church services, are the primary tools which are used to preach the Gospel.  In addition to the previously mentioned skill-sets, laborers are needed to assist in numerous ways with the medical clinics and church services.  The dynamics of each trip will vary depending upon the area in which we are working.  At times, we will take upwards of twenty people and work with local pastors to assist in the  beginning stages of a new church plant.  Other times may involve a smaller group of personnel as we may be entering into new areas with the hopes of planting a new church in the near future.  Occasionally our accommodations will include hotels and restaurants along the Amazon river while other endeavors may be a bit more rigorous; such as sleeping in hammocks and cooking over a camp stove or open fire.

We trust that you will give consideration to how you might take part in one or several endeavors with the AmazonForChrist outreach teams.
